Figure 7. Final prioritize hypothesis item from Figure 4. Drag-and-Drop (DND). This type of item provides for a set of token elements to be enabled to be dragged to specific target locations to answer the question. The drag- gable elements are called tokens, and the response area is called the target. Examples of these types of items can be found in Figures 8 and 9. Figure 9 provides the usual layout of the item where there are a number of tokens that need to be moved to the appropriate targets. For these items there were two variations on the presentation which corresponded to directions that stated either ‘select all’ or ‘select N’ that apply.

The third and final scoring rule is the rationale scoring rule and this scoring rule applies to items that have tightly paired information. And having a full understanding of the concept requires justification through a rationale. In the simplest form, you can think of this as a nurse must do X because of Y. These items come in two structural forms, a dyad and a triad. Dyads are worth one point and a triad is worth two points. Here's an example of a drop-down rationale. The client is at highest risk for developing X as evidenced by Y. To earn a point, an examinee must get both drop-downs correct.

The survey also included questions about the nurses’ practice settings, past experiences and demographics. Six forms of the survey were created to reduce the number of activity statements on each survey and sent via the internet to a sample of newly licensed LPN/ VNs. Four of the survey forms contained 26 activity statements each, and two survey forms contained 25 activity statements. Except for the activity statements unique to each survey form, the surveys were identical. Survey Process Sample Selection A sample of 26,559 recipients was randomly selected from the candidates who passed the NCLEX-PN® examination from April 8, 2023, through Feb. 15, 2024.
