She is employed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) where she is an Associate in Regulatory Innovations and the Project Manager for the Transition-to-Practice project. Nancy Spector, PhD, RN, received her BSN from the University of Wisconsin, Madison; earned an MSN at the University of California San Francisco; and earned her PhD from Rush College of Nursing. She is employed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing where she is the Director of Regulatory Innovations.

Now again, this is as pre, as Hank mentioned, 2011 when the CEOs kind of started getting together and before our dodecahedron, etc., started to gather support around it.     Making available to the mem- ber board jurisdictions such a legally defensible passing standard would be an obvious benefit. Rather than have each jurisdiction perform essential- ly the same study, it seemed sensible to commit significant resources to the project and conduct a single, well-crafted study that could be used by all jurisdictions, should they so choose. This could provide an additional benefit for internationally educated candidates by making the examination results portable across the jurisdictions that use the standard.

    Additionally, a survey was sent to a sample of nurse edu- cators to determine whether there was interest in using the tool. Although Disch and Barnsteiner (2014) reported many nursing programs were interested in using the SSR Tool, the NCSBN believed it was important to confirm this prior to implementing the project. Of 376 nursing deans and direc- tors who responded to the question about their willingness to use the SSR Tool, 92% indicated they would likely use the tool or wanted to learn more about the tool before making a decision; the remaining 8% reported they were unlikely to use the tool.
