When I first became a faculty member at Loyola University in Chicago in 1990, I vividly remember the enormous amount of time I’d spend developing my exams. I taught undergraduate lecture courses in pharmacology, research and junior and senior medical-surgical nursing. My undergraduate exams were developed using, for the most part, multiple choice questions. However, it is rare that headlines such as these are balanced with press reports of the significant and innovative work being undertaken in the health professional education and clinical fields to address this international problem.
