The importance of these moments will never change… it’s why we do what we do! The importance of these moments will never change… but everything else will. That means asking tough questions about how we regulate today. We are the guard rails and the barriers. But where are there guard rails that have become just simple barriers? “These walls are funny. First you hate 'em, then you get used to 'em. Enough time passes, you get so you depend on them. That's institutionalized.” Slide 1 Slide 2: Be in the Moment Slide 3 Slide 4 Slide 5: Dueling Paradigms Slide 6 Slide 7 Slide 8 Slide 9 Slide 10 Slide 11 Slide 12 Slide 13 Slide 14 Slide 15 Slide 16 Slide 17 Slide 18 Slide 19 Slide 20 Slide 21 Slide 22 Slide 23

The students are also provided with regulatory experiences in the didactic courses and labs as they learn about concepts such as HIPPA elements, infection control, MRSA and safe medication administration. In the clinical setting students apply these concepts and faculty assist them in understanding how these regulations translate into specific practices and procedures. Students are also exposed to regulatory compliance when they are able to observe or take part in hospital accreditation surveys by The Joint Commission. Assignments and case-based scenarios are excellent ways to evaluate students, learning when identifying regulatory issues, as well as demonstrating theoretical understanding and practical application.

This document offers a comprehensive listing of content for each client needs category and subcategory outlined in the test plan. Sample items are provided at the end of each category, which are specific to the client needs category in that section. There is an item writing guide along with sample case scenarios, which provide nurse educators with hands-on experience in writing NCLEX-style test items. What is the true difference between 0 or .0001 logits? Not a real difference, huh? Even though we do standard setting in a very rigorous way, there's no true value. Passing standard is related to mission of the organization and the exam. For NCLEX, the mission is public safety. When we set a standard, we need to keep the mission in our mind. Standards should be revisited when test specifications, scope of practice, education programs, and/or other factors change. When we change a test plan, we need to reevaluate the standard.

Nursing Student Errors and Near Misses: Three Years of Data
Ex- amples of the errors and near misses in clinical experiences and simulation are listed in Table 6. The following student quote is an example of a typical medication error that occurred in the simulation laboratory: “I pushed Lasix too fast during simulation when I stated I was pushing over 2 minutes…I only pushed for 34 seconds.” There were far fewer occurrences in the skills learning laboratory than in the simulation laboratory or the clinical setting (Table 1). Additionally, there were more near misses in the clinical setting than in the simulation laboratory.

Explain how and where to apply, discuss the application requirements, identify panel composition and criteria, and understand the panel selection process. Each year, hundreds of volunteers come to Chicago and contribute their expertise toward the development of the NCLEX. Dozens of panels are held throughout the year, so there are many opportunities to participate. Although there are several panel types, the vast majority are either item writing panels or item review panels. Each panel type has specific composition criteria. To be considered for a panel, volunteers must submit an online application.

Using a comparative approach, data collected over a number of years in both the NCLEX practice analysis and NCLEX continuous practice analysis were compared to analyze notable trends. The results of data analyses indicated some differences from one NCLEX practice analysis to the next; however, there were no significant differences when comparing the NCLEX practice analysis data with NCLEX continuous practice analysis data. The results of the data analyses remain important to the nursing profession to ensure the validity of the NCLEX test plans during the interim phase of NCLEX practice analysis cycles.

Implementing the Amended 60-Day Residency Rule and Managing the Duplicate Multistate License Report Jim Puente Director, NLC Implementing the Amended 60-Day Residency Rule Which States are Part of the NLC? Key Points • Not a “new” rule but an “amended” rule. • The amended rule went into effect 1/2/2024. • Pertains to: 1) RNs and LPNs/VNs 2) who hold a compact license in the PSOR and 3) who relocate and change their PSOR to another NLC state. (i.e., I was a legal resident of compact state A and now I have relocated and I am a legal resident of compact state B). • When we say “change PSOR” or “relocate” we mean that the move is of a permanent nature.

Cruise Control: NLC Compliance | NCSBN
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. Nursys: A Critical Tool Driving NLC Success Nursys has a variety of information, tools and reports ready at your fingertips. But how exactly do you navigate Nursys and take appropriate steps to ensure compliance with uploading licensure information, processing speed memos, turning on Nurse Alert when there is a significant investigation and more? This educational session will poll your knowledge, engage you in discussion, demonstrate Nursys functionality and share categories of speed memos and examples. Avoiding Regulatory Dead Ends We have all heard of “bad apple” nurses.

So, I think those are also opportunities for the board to bring good resources to the public. - We need to have information available that both the profession and the public and the legislators can actually look at and compare and contrast the performance of one board against another. We also need to obviously deal with when there are complaints and problems, we need to address that in a timely way and in a proportionate way. Having a range of solutions in terms of the severity of the issues that are being addressed by modernizing regulation that will be fit for today's world, not yesterday's, that's the work of the regulator as we move forward to protect the public.
