We conclude the introduction with an expression of sincere gratitude to the intrepid women who served on the Special Task Force—State Boards of Nursing from 1977 to 1978. Gertrude (Trudy) Malone, Area I, Elaine Ellibee, Area II, Helen (Pat) Keefe, Area III, and Mildred Schmidt, Area I, committed their abilities and time to prepare the information and structure necessary for the members of the ANA Council of State Boards of Nursing to meet in June 1978 and cast the vote that created NCSBN.
